Lilypad Princess got sick this week, turns out she is having her first bout with strep throat. I was hoping this wasn't something she would get from me, I suffered from strep forever, until I finally had my tonsils out at 26 years old. Hopefully this is just a one time thing for her.
She came down with a sudden, high fever on Monday night, and Tuesday morning we headed to the doctor. About 3 or 4 hours after her first dose of antibiotics (only her second time to ever need them) the fever was gone, she was eating again, and back to her old, active self.

The Lily Bowl
Lilypad Princess and I were home alone for the Superbowl tonight since Lilypad Dad got stuck having to work. We decided to have our own little party with the game on in the background.
Lilypad Princess and I made our own individual pizzas for dinner, then held our own Lily Bowl. Using one of the pocket kleenex packs as the football, I played QB while LP was my receiver. Our field was the kitchen and the living room, and I found out I have a pretty good arm with a kleenex pack. LP would go out for the long throw, from the kitchen to the living room, usually just giggling as the throw hit the ground in front of her (she needs a few lessons on how the game is played I think). Then she'd scoop it up and run it back with a big hug tackle and a kiss.
I much prefer the Lily Bowl to the Superbowl and think we need to make this a yearly game.

Bedtime Books

During our trip to the library this week, Lilypad Princess and I picked up some new books to read including a few specifically bedtime related books. Now that we have had a chance to read them all, the definite favorite has emerged. It is read multiple times each night before bed, and I think will have to be made a permanent addition to our library.
Good Night, Animals by Lena Arro, Catarina Kruusval, and Joan Sandin tells the story of Bubble and Pearl’s campout adventure. As they settle into their “green cave” tent and darkness falls, they hear some strange noises outside. Each noise turns out to be friendly animals who want to join the campout in the tent. One by one, the animals rearrange to make room as mice and rabbits, a cat, dog, hen, sheep, and even a horse settle down for the night.
A Big Thank You
A very big thank you to Blue House Omi for being so thoughtful to Munchkinetta's friends including Lilypad Princess. She sent each of Munchkinetta's friends a package of Dentek Fun Flossers. The first time I attempted to floss LP's teeth with regular floss she looked at me like I had three heads, ran away and hid behind the chair in her bedroom. But thanks to Blue House Omi's generosity, we have been able to make flossing a regular part of LP's bedtime routine (ok, it's still not the favorite part of the routine, but she doesn't fight either!)
I know now where Blue House Mom and Munchkinetta get their generous spirit for always thinking of others.

The Best Toy of All

Lilypad Princess and I spent most of tonight playing with her favorite toy of all, her imagination. Even with all of the wonderful toys we have, LP prefers to play with pretend ones. Tonight she was Cinderella dropping the breakfast tray when she learned the man she danced with was the prince. She rescued me from the sticky mud with a rope when I fell in. We reached for the moon, and when we couldn't quite touch it because it is far, far away, she used her trampoline to launch her into outer space.

101 Things Every Kid Should Do Growing Up
A much better find than the video was the book 101 Things Every Kid Should Do Growing Up. I haven't made it all the way through yet, but as I go through I'm making notes on things that I want to remember to do with Lilypad Princess as she grows and which things we have already done.
The book also has helpful hints for most things, such as a recipe for making your own Playdoh (#6 Every kid should play with playdoh)or ways to have an indoor camp-out if you don't have a backyard (#4 Every kid should camp in the backyard).
Some of the things LP has already done:
#35 Every kid should create a holiday keepsake. (Santa's cookie plate)
#5 Every kid should play in the bathtub until his skin wrinkles. (almost every bath)
#8 Every kid should catch snowflakes on his tongue and eyelashes.
#38 Every kid should have a collection. (magnets)
#39 Every kid should attend a live performance. (Sesame Street Live)
#37 Every kid should play dress up.
#69 Every kid should make a pizza
Some of the ones that will definitely be added to my list of things to do:
#77 Every kid should go to a baseball game with Grandpa. (definitely a Yankee game)
#86 Every kid should have a personal library card.
#24 Every kid should learn to swim (in progress)
#27 Every kid should take music lessons.
#36 Every kid should participate in a "-thon".
#45 Every kid should write a memory letter each year.
#56 Evert kid should create a board game.

I Can Go Potty
During our trip to the library last night I picked up the video, I Can Go Potty! for Lilypad Princess. We watched it for the first time today, and I will be returning it tomorrow. This is one I definitely won't recommend to anyone. The little girl who narrates it annoys me; "I consider myself an expert on the potty". Lilypad Princess seemed interested for about 5 minutes, then kept telling the little girl "bye-bye!" I guess she had enough of her too. We'll just wait for the Elmo Potty dvd to come in from another library for us.
Just a little snack

I've been trying to eat as healthy as possible as well as going to the gym. But I haven't been able to curb my urge for a snack now and then. So my popcorn bowl has been getting quite a workout of its own lately.
The Nordic Ware Microwave Popcorn Popper produces up to 12 cups of fresh popcorn without any oil in less than 4 minutes. You just pour the kernels in the bowl, put the top on and stick it in the microwave. A couple sprays of a zero calorie butter spray, a little sprinkle of salt and you have a low calorie, no fat, whole grain, high fiber snack that is filling and satisfies that urge to snack.
