The Dentist: Take 2

It's been six months since our last attempt to have Lilypad Princess visit the dentist. Today was slightly more successful, but not completely. We all had appointments and I was called in first. My cleaning was pretty quick, and when I was done I went to the room next door. LP was sitting on her dad's lap watching the hygenist check out his teeth. Apparently she had been willing to sit on his lap in the chair and open her mouth so they hygenist could look at her teeth, but didn't let her touch her teeth with anything.

So Lilypad Princess sat on my lap and we watched Lilypad Dad get his teeth cleaned while I explained everything to her. She didn't like the noise of the equipment though, and when he was done she still didn't want her teeth cleaned. She was willing to let the hygenist brush her teeth with a regular toothbrush, but that was all. She was very excited about her new purple toothbrush when we left though.

I think it's great she let the hygenist brush her teeth. Munchkinetta has only sat in the chair, never opened her mouth for the dentist yet. My next appointment is the end of this month and she'll come along with me. We'll see how it goes.

I've never been a big fan of the dentist. I think my kids pick up on this. They are always nervous!

A "few" years ago (+/- 25 years) there was an episode on Sesame Street about the dentist, and one of the songs was,:
"me and my Lama, me and my Lama, going to the dentist to day......"
I may have a copy of it someplace -will look tonight.

Yeah, the fact that she opened her mouth at all is probably HUGE considering she's just 2. Our dentist doesn't mind when I bring Buby to all of my appointments and let him sit on my lap... she always told me it would make him more comfortable coming himself, and it did. It's definitely risky at this age... since they can just take off when your head is back, but I'd take her with you guys everytime even just to develop a relationship with the hygenist. And the "prize" box.

It sounds like she's making progress at least...Pumpkin thinks having his teeth brushed is a great game half the time, the other half of the time he clenches his mouth shut and refuses to let us brush his teeth.
