Brownies

Last night as I was snuggling with LP in her bed, she asked me to pat her head. The head turned into her cheek, her nose, her other cheek, her forehead, her mouth and her brownies. When she asked me to pat her brownies I repeated it and she started laughing. But she asked 2 more times for me to pat her brownies. Then she said, "these things, my brownies Mama" as she rubbed her eyebrows.

Better Than Bear

Ever since LP was tiny, she has had a habit of holding onto my fingers or thumb and digging under my nail. I don't know why she does it, but she used to do it while nursing, when she's on my lap reading a book, holding my hand in the car, etc. Tonight I went up to turn her stars off and found her still awake reading a book. I turned everything off and leaned down to give her a hug when she asked me for my hand. She told me that my nails are better than bear. I didn't think there was anything better than bear, especially because he feels like blueberries.

Everything But The Backyard Swing

A 3 year old's version of packing

One day left until Tulsa. Yesterday LP helped me pack. While I was going through her summer clothes trying to decide what to pack, she filled the suitcase with about 25 pairs of big underwear, 15 pairs of socks, and all of her winter dresses. Then she tried to fit her doll, panda, and pink sparkly shoes into the suitcase.

Today while I was getting our carry-on bag together she turned to me and asked if PopPop will push her on the swing. Suddenly she got very concerned and said, "We didn't pack my swing!" I can just imagine the laugh the TSA x-ray people would get if I allowed LP to pack her own suitcase. I got away with promising her that Nana and PopPop will take her to the big playground and push her on the sings.

Blueberries

When LP gets tired and needs to recharge with Bear, she always pulls off her socks or tights (if she somehow still has them on). She loves to put Bear's arm between her toes. The other day I asked her why she liked Bear's arm between her toes. She told me that it made her happy. I asked her what it felt like.

LP: It feels like blueberries.

A Blue Unicorn

LP has been doing a lot of riding lately. She gallops and flies around the house on a blue unicorn with a white tail. Today as she was going down for a nap she asked me to get the unicorn.

Me: Would you like me to feed your unicorn while you sleep?
LP: Yes.

So I called the unicorn to me, the same way I take the ghosts out with me at night.

LP: No mommy, not the pretend one. I want you to buy a real unicorn so I can ride him everywhere. He can run and fly. A blue one with a white tail.

Does anyone know where I can find a blue unicorn with wings and a white tail?

High Flying

LP: I wish I had a rocketship.
me: Why a rocketship?
LP: I could go to Nana and PopPop's house.
me: Is there room on your rocketship for me? Mommy could use some 60 degree weather right now.

The Little Potty

I was just taking LP upstairs for her nap today when she told me she went potty in the little potty, like last year. I got worried since we don't have the little potty chairs anymore and kept trying to figure out what she was talking about, but she just kept telling me the little potty. I started looking for a pot or something she might have used.

We are finally just about finished with redoing LP's bathroom. We had to go searching for a toilet that would fit since apparently the standards for a house built in 1927 were different than one now. We finally found one this morning and Uncle Dave is upstairs installing it. He mentioned that the toilet came with some kind of water or lubricant in it. I wasn't sure why, but thought that must be something that an expensive toilet did.

Wait a second, the liquid in the toilet is yellow. There is no tank on it yet, so it is a smaller toilet than most. A little potty. Yes, my daughter peed in the brand new toilet in the hallway before it was installed. Uncle Dave is now trying to install it without spilling so we can flush it!

That Mean Sun

Tonight as I was putting LP to bed, we were talking about our plans for Thanksgiving tomorrow. I reminded her that Grandpa, Nannie, and Auntie La would be coming for Thanksgiving dinner and to play for the day, and that Auntie La would be having a slumber party with us. Then LP asked me if Eka would be coming too.

Eka recently had surgery on her eye and wasn't feeling up to making the trip down. So I tried the simple explanation that Eka had a boo-boo in her eye, so she couldn't come this time.

LP: A boo-boo like your foot?
Me: Yes, like my foot has a boo-boo.
LP: How did Eka's eye get a boo-boo?
Me: (not sure how to explain it) Well...
LP: I know, the sun poked her in the eye and gave her a boo-boo. The sun knocked her sunglasses off and then a snake came, Hisssss, and took her glasses. Then she runned all the way to the water, and the sun poked her in the eye.

The First Real Snow

First Snow

Last week we had our first snow that stuck on the ground. The grass was white when we woke up in the morning, so LP and I went out to play for a little while before heading off to school. Although it melted quickly and we didn't get to play in it again, the snow really made an impression on her. When asked later in the week what she was thankful for, her response was, "Playing in the snow."

Weddings

Scene: Mommy and Uncle Dave talking about wedding dress designs. LP sitting on the couch next to us, when LP pipes up.

LP: Uncle Dave, I got married last year to Gavin.
Uncle Dave: You married Gavin last year? What did you wear?
LP: A beautiful white nightgown.

I would have said that this was a result of all the wedding talk with Uncle Matt and Aunt Wendy yesterday, but she was talking about getting married before they came over yesterday. She was trying on jewelry and told me that she got one ring when she married Gavin and the other ring when she married Alessandro.

Milk Delivery

The weaning process has been very slow going. We are down to once a day just before bed, and those sessions are much shorter now. Apparently the lack of nursing is finally starting affect my supply. Tonight LP looked up at me and said, "You need to drink some milk and put it in your nurts."

Playhouse Disney, Live On Tour!

Get out your earplugs Grandpa and Nannie, I don't know if you really know what you have gotten yourselves into!

Grandpa and Nannie got tickets to take LP to see Playhouse Disney Live on Tour next month. Mickey and the gang, Handy Manny, the Super Sleuths, and LP's favorites - The Little Einsteins will all be singing and dancing along with lots of enthusiastic singing, cheers, and I'm sure some yells from the kids. LP was looking at a short video of it online, got very sad, and told me, "Disney World is so far, far away." She is going to be so surprised when she finds out a little bit of Disney World will be visiting Grandpa's neighborhood!

The Real Story Behind The Cupcakes

Today was the second full day of preschool. Lilypad Dad and I walked Lilypad Princess over to school, and I had a minute to ask Miss Marianne what happened with the cupcakes last week. I told her LP's version of the story; Mrs. Hodgepodge was trying to steal the cupcakes so LP needed to hide them, but dropped them on the floor.

According to Miss Marianne, the janitor is Mr. H... and he likes to joke with the kids. Apparently he said that he was going to eat all the cupcakes. LP got nervous and took them down off the table to hide them, but the top came off and 1/2 to 3/4's of them landed on the floor.

Now the story makes more sense!

I Never Want to Forget

Knock Knock

Who's there?
Banana.
Banana who?
Banana you glad I didn't say orange?

Lilypad Princess has discovered children's favorite humor, knock knock jokes. She just hasn't gotten them quite right yet.

Knock Knock.
Who's there.
Car
Car who?
House I didn't say car? (Subsitute whatever two objects she can see at the time of the joke.)

What Color Cheese?

Scene: Lilypad Princess sitting at the table with her slice of pizza. Auntie La getting a drink, Lilypad Mom at the counter opening up the wings. I said something to Auntie La about the blue cheese.

LP: Blue cheese? (studies her pizza)
LP: It's not blue cheese, it's white cheese!

A Bedtime Story

Disney World is still very fresh in LP's mind. Each night before bed she tells me about the trip. Tonight as I was getting ready to put her to bed, she told me the following story.

"I go on the rollercoaster and I go AGHHH!"
"Then we go on the magic carpet and we go up in the air."
"The camel spit on mommy and daddy."
"The brooms splash water on me."
"Donald took Mickey's hat but it's too big."
"We have to take Mickey's hat back. Can we go back to Mickey's house today? Please momma?"

And each day she tells me about the Dumbo ride. The only ride that we waited in line for more than 20 minutes and all she talks about is that she wanted the blue one to match her dress, but the boy wouldn't let her ride the blue one so we had to ride the green one.

A Dinner Conversation

While having dinner at the kitchen table tonight, a beautiful cardinal landed on the bush right outside the window. We watched him fly around the yard for a few minutes. The following conversations went like this.

Lilypad Princess: I catch him on my finger?
Lilypad Mom: No honey, we can't catch him on our fingers.
LP: (Remembering the bird exhibit at the aquarium and demonstrating) I put my finger out and the bird sits on my finger.
LM: Those were special birds. The ones in our backyard are just to look at, they don't sit on our fingers.
LP: The bird flies in backyard and I say "Hi Red Bird" he say "Hi Baby Lillian", I not baby Lillian, I big girl Lillian.

A Child's Sense of Distance

Normally when Lilypad Princess talks about someone who isn't with us, she tells me that they are "far, far away". Nana and PopPop are far, far away (which is true). Grandpa and Nannie are far, far away (I guess to a 2 year old, a 2 hour drive is far, far away). But daddy is also far, far away when he's at work, and her friends are far, far away if they aren't playing with us at the time.

Yesterday Lilypad Princess reminded me of a child's view on distance and travel just isn't the same as ours. All of a sudden while getting dressed for the day, she turned to me and told me that she missed her Nana. I told her that I missed Nana too, and asked her if she wanted to call her. LP told me that she didn't want to call, "Let's go see her." I told her that Nana was too far away to go see her today, remember how we had to go on the airplane last week? She gave me an exasperated look, like she couldn't believe I wasn't smart enough to think of it, and told me, "No, we go see Nana upstairs." Then she started heading up the stairs to the guest room where Nana sleeps whenever she stays with us.

Princess Taste

Uncle Dave is over to visit and is going to stay for dinner. We're all exhausted after a long day, so we're trying to decide what we want for take-out. Uncle Dave suggested filet mignon and cavier, to which Lilypad Princess exclaimed, "Yum, that sounds delicious!"
