Election 2008

The day finally arrived, votes were cast, and Obama is our new President Elect. No matter how you voted or feel about the outcome, history was made yesterday. LP got to be part of that historical event when she accompanied me and LP Dad to the polls yesterday. I tried to bring voting down to a 3 year old's level to explain what was going on and why it was important. I know she didn't understand everything, but she came with me into the booth and helped me to cast my vote.

I am extremely disappointed that Americans in 3 states let fear and intolerance legalize discrimination by taking away the rights of gays and lesbians. I sincerely hope that by the time LP is old enough to understand what is happening, this legalized discrimination will be overturned.

It was such a historic night. I really felt it, and I'm happy our children were here for it. Buby said he wanted Obama to win. The whole superhero bit. And I think he just really likes saying the name. He went to bed early but the next morning I ran in there and said, "So who do you think won?" He said, "John McCain. Yeah, he did." So he was pretty surprised when I told him. I hope he grows up interested in politics like his dad and I so we can have some good debates here when he's a bit older.

Dear E.

I hope you are right.
And I hope it happens soon.
Maybe our new choice of President and his choices for the Supreme Court will finally stop "legal discrimination" of any kind in our country.

Love, Mom
